Two brothels close together in a residential area have been shut down after a police investigation in Colliers Wood.
A spokesman for Merton police said they were alerted to the location of the brothels, which were in “very close proximity” to each other, after a tip-off from a member of the public.
Merton police released this map of the general area the brothels were located
The two establishments were being advertised online and by word of mouth.
The spokesman added: “After several weeks of intelligence gathering and visits to the area, officers were able to liaise with the respective landlords and landlords agents.
“By working in partnership with Merton Council, warning notices were served in both English and Spanish.
“The welfare of the sex workers, who were all women, were checked and there were no signs of human trafficking, and they did not appear to be there under duress.
“The women were given reassurance and helpful contact details should they need them.
“No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue.”
The brothels were closed on Friday, March 10.
Merton police would not comment on the size of the brothels or the exact location, but confirmed it was in an residential part of the area pictured in the map (above).
