A man has died of a cardiac arrest after collapsing at a gym in Wimbledon.

Staff at the Nuffield Health, Fitness and Wellbeing Centre in Wimbledon Broadway administered first aid to the gym member after he collapsed this morning, but the gym has now confirmed that the man sadly passed away.

The general manager of Nuffield Health Wimbledon Club, Louise Hilton, said: “On Friday, February 24, one of our members collapsed and our trained staff were immediately on the scene to administer first aid before the emergency services arrived.

"The member has since sadly passed away and our sincere condolences and thoughts are with their family and friends at this time.

"In light of these circumstances the club will remain temporarily closed.”

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called today at 10.50am to reports of a patient in cardiac arrest at an address on The Broadway, Wimbledon.

"We sent an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic and a single responder in a car to the scene. The first of our medics arrived in under four minutes.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a man died at the scene."

Three ambulances were seen parked outside The Broadway gym around around 11.45am.

It is not known how long the gym will remain closed.
