May 3: Husband and wife Mohammed and Nazimabee Golamaully charged with fundraising for the purposes of terrorism appear in court

The couple admitted sending the money to their nephew through money services businesses and via an individual based in Turkey.

Their nephew, who has been identified by the BBC as Zafirr Golamaully, is known to be fighting with Islamic State militants in Syria.

Nazimabee Golamaully was arrested in April 2015, and her husband was arrested in December 2015.

They were both charged on April 27 with fundraising on or before August 13, 2014, contrary to Section 15 (3) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Commander Dean Haydon, head of the Met Police’s counter terrorism command, said: "Any amount of cash sent to terrorists is money which is enabling them to further their hatred and carry out attacks on innocent people.

"So regardless of the amount in question, the counter terrorism command will identify those who support terrorism and prosecute them where appropriate."

The couple have been released on conditional bail until their sentencing at the Old Bailey on November 10.
