Mitcham Common has gone up in flames this afternoon.
The London Fire Brigade were called at 14.39 to a grass fire on the Common, which a spokeswoman confirmed has consumed six hectares of heath land.

Six hecatres is equivalent to 60,000 square metres, and approximately the size of 10 football pitches.
Four fire engines are tackling the blaze, which was said to be under control at 4pm.
Merton police have warned that heavy traffic delays should be expected in the area.
