Yesterday's evacuation of Wimbledon Leisure Centre took place after a member of staff accidentally mixed an industrial cleaning fluid with normal pool chemicals in a holding tank.
In a statement, the leisure centre said a "liquid coagulant" was mixed into the holding tank, and accepted the combination had "the potential to create noxious vapours."
Liquid coagulant is an industrial cleaner usually used to break down sludge deposits inside boilers.
The statement added: "The mistake was immediately recognised and standard health and safety procedures for such an incident were followed.
"This lead to the leisure centre being evacuated as a precaution and the emergency services being called.
"One member of staff was taken to hospital for precautionary checks, there were no other injuries."
The evacuation yesterday morning was described as a "minor chemical incident" by police, and led to six people being treated for fume inhalation at the leisure centre in Latimer Road.
Latimer Road and surrounding roads were closed until 2pm.
Wimbledon Leisure Centre is open as normal today.
