A Mitcham restaurant which has hosted stars of Hollywood, the charts and political big hitters is in the running for a prestigious award.

Chak89 in Bond Road was nominated for the Tiffin Cup by Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhain McDonagh.

The competition, headed up by MP Keith Vaz, sets out to find the best South Asian restaurant in the country and the finals – including a cook-off – are held at the House of Commons in July.

Chak89 is already popular, with high profile diners including Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens, Hollywood bad girl Lindsay Lohan, footballer John Terry and chart topper Emeli Sande.

EastEnders hard man Danny Dyer visited for New Year, describing it as the ‘best curry house in the world’.

MP McDonagh recently held a Labour Party dinner at Chak89, with attendees including former Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Chak89’s director Frank Khalid said: “We are very proud to have been nominated by Siobhan McDonagh, who often dines at Chak 89 and has blessed us with her company on several occasions. To be judged by MP's from across the UK is a very exciting opportunity for us, and the fact it is a national award makes it even more challenging.

“We are looking forward to seeing what's to come for us this year - this is the start of bigger and better things.”
