A burglar has been jailed after police traced him using a tracking app on an iPhone he had stolen.

Jermaine Debrah, 28, was found just metres away from Mitcham police station after the device - stolen during a break-in in Croydon - alerted officers to his whereabouts through the Find My iPhone application.

The thief had stolen the phone during a burglary just after midnight on November 8 last year Debrah in Heathfield Road, Croydon.

He was later traced to the junction of Bramcote Avenue and Cricket Green, just metres from the police station, and was found with the phone in his jogging trousers.

He had not switched off the Find My iPhone app, meaning officers could enter the victims' details and see his location.

Debrah, of Church Road, Mitcham, denied stealing the phone but fibres from his shirt were matched to fibres found on a fence at the flat that was burgled.

He was also sentenced to a further eight weeks in prison for failing to comply with requirements of his suspended sentence for shoplifting in October 2014.
