A clairvoyant is the most unusual response to the public plea for help by police investigating the prolific ‘Fisherman’s Hat’ burglar in Wimbledon.

Officers have been sifting through about 100 responses from members of the public, businesses and even a clairvoyant after the national appeal for help last week.

Wimbledon Times:

March 15: Victims brand the UK's most notorious 'fisherman's hat' burglar 'evil' as he continues to evade police

The prolific burglar, who wears a trade mark black 'fisherman's' hat and black clothing, has targeted properties within Wimbledon Village since 2006.

Detectives think he is responsible for more than 450 burglaries in the area in more than 10 years.

March 14: Exclusive footage of fisherman's hat burglar shows him calmly walking off with 45 kilo safe containing £100,000 of cash and jewellery from Parkside home

He is believed to have got away with millions of pounds of property including jewellery, family heirlooms and cash. In one instance, he can be seen on CCTV at a home in Parkside throwing a safe with £100,000 of cash and jewellery in from a window and walking off with it.

Superintendent Steve Wallace, who is working on the long-running investigation, said: “We have had about 100 people calling with information.

“We are sifting through it at the moment.

“It is everything from people touting for business and even a clairvoyant.”

Despite the public appeal, officers have not identified the man, who is said to be in his late thirties and about five foot eight or ten inches.
