The sex worker at the centre of a scandal that has brought down a Wimbledon police officer has spoken out following his sentencing.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, branded the former police officer an “absolute disgrace to humanity” after he admitted secretly filming himself in numerous sexual encounters with prostitutes.

She went to Southwark Crown Court yesterday to see PC Irshad Kamal, 47, be sentenced to sign the sex offenders register for five years, as well as being given a community order and compulsory attendance at a community sex offender group programme.

She said: “I’m pleased he’s on the sex offenders register. It speaks volumes about his despicable character as a human being.

“I’m happy with the outcome. It’s been a long process but I can finally get my life back.

“If there’s a positive it’s that this man can’t have contact with any vulnerable women now.”

The 202 explicit videos, including 70 where the women did not appear to know they were being recorded, were discovered after police arrested PC Kamal in November 2014.

PC Kamal has been suspended on full pay from Wimbledon police station since his arrest

He had been accused of sexually assaulting and stalking the prostitute.

In a trial at the Old Bailey in September 2015, the court heard PC Kamal was arrested after the woman posted his details on the ‘Ugly Mugs’ website to warn other sex workers about his behaviour. The woman eventually moved out of her home of five years into a secure gated community out of concern for her safety.

The sex worker, said: “It gives me comfort knowing the humiliation I faced for three days in the witness stand has ultimately resulted in this man being on the sex offenders register, and losing his job caring for the vulnerable.

“I went through it all because I wanted my voice to be heard.

“He’s an absolute disgrace to humanity and there’s no way in hell he should ever have any contact with sex workers or vulnerable people ever again.”

The woman was supported in court by the operations manager from the charity National Ugly Mugs, which fights to end violence against sex workers.

The operations manager, Kerri Swindells, said: “Sex workers are targeted because people believe it won’t be reported to police. But women can report to us, and we can support them and start these processes.

“When people go through the courts like this, it has huge benefits. This will protect a lot of sex workers from this man.

“He was a police officer tasked with protecting the public, but in his spare time he offended against them.

“Justice has been done and we’re really proud of this woman. She’s our hero.”
