A home care service founded by a grieving daughter has become the first London homecare provider to be rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Home Instead Senior Care Wimbledon & Kingston was established by Clare Jefferies five years ago, after she lost her father to Motor Neurone Disease and her mother to cancer within seven months of each other.

Mrs Jefferies described the rating as a “dream come true”.

She said: “My parents would be so proud of the fact that the homecare company I’ve built in their memory has been officially rated outstanding by the CQC.

“When my parents needed care, I often dreamed of having another me, a carbon copy daughter who could help look after them just the way I would do, with kindness and dignity.

“That’s the kind of care we deliver at Home Instead Senior Care each day.”

The service offers personal care, home help and social clubs to its 130 clients in areas including Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Colliers Wood, Worcester Park, Kingston and Surbiton.

Following an inspection in December, the CQC rated the service as outstanding in being response and well-led, and rated it good in being safe, effective and caring.

It was given an overall rating of outstanding.

The CQC inspection report described the service as having “an extremely positive culture”.

It says: “Positive, caring relationships had been developed with people. People and their relatives were consistently positive about the caring attitude of the staff.

“One word that was used by several people when asked about the care they received was ‘excellent’.”

The CQC’s deputy chief inspector for adult social care, Sally Warren, said: “We are delighted that Home Instead Senior Care is the first London home care provider to receive an outstanding rating.

“We were particularly impressed with the provider’s work to ensure meaningful and positive experienced for people who use the service and the commitment of all staff to continuously seek improved outcomes for service users.

“This is a great example of what outstanding care looks like."
