The move will allow a new pool to be built without closing the current leisure centre but it is still in its early stages despite years of talks.

Four sites around the college in London Road in Morden were considered for the centre which will include a six lane 25m pool, four badminton courts and a sports hall as well as gym and cafe facilities.

People can view the proposals at the Morden Area Forum at the Civic Centre in Morden on Thursday, February 4, at 7.15pm.

A second opportunity to view and comment on the plans will be on Thursday, February 11, at the Civic Centre from 11.30am to 2pm, and at the pool from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Cabinet member for Community and Leisure, Councillor Nick Draper said: “I am delighted that the designs for the new Morden Leisure Centre are ready for community consultation.

"It is essential for us to get your thoughts on our designs. We know from the earlier consultation what the community want and we have designed a leisure centre that the entire family can go to, enjoy themselves and get fit at the same time.

"However, the hard work starts now in ensuring that the building stays within the budget and agreed time frame.”
