Extra patrols have been put in place following the fatal stabbing of a man in Kendor Gardens, Morden, yesterday morning.

The community was in shock on Tuesday morning when a man died in Morden and on the same morning, a second man was stabbed in the buttocks in Mitcham.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police met with councillors in Merton on Tuesday evening to review the two serious incidents, and they have pledged further patrols. 

 

One man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing.

He is being held at a south London police station.

Detective Inspector Peter Timms said: "There has been one arrest but whether or not it is linked remains to be seen.

"It is a very early arrest.

"We are still waiting for formal identification of a man in his 20s.

"We're aware of the Mitcham incident but we are not linking the two at the moment.

"We would ask anyone who was going through the park yesterday morning who might have seen anything suspcious to call us on 020 8721 4054 or Crimestoppers."

After the second incident, a man was taken to a south London hospital where he remains with stab wounds which are not said to be life threatening or life changing.
