Chairman and joint founder of Wimbledon BookFest Tony Kane has stepped down from his role, to allow "somebody younger" to take over.

Mr Kane, who co-founded the festival in 2006, will be replaced by Toby Mundy.

Mr Mundy is a trustee of the BookFest, as well as founder and former chief executive of Atlantic Books and prize director of the Baillie Gifford Prize.

Festival director and co-founder, Fiona Razvi, said: "Wimbledon BookFest is extremely privileged to welcome Toby Mundy as our new festival chairman.

"Our founding chairman Tony Kane was instrumental in establishing and building the festival’s firm foundations and we’re now looking forward to this exciting next stage with Toby at the helm."

Mr Mundy said: "I have been a trustee of Wimbledon BookFest for a number of years and I am delighted and honoured to become chairman in 2016.

"My predecessor Tony Kane leaves big shoes fill.

"On the eve of its 10th anniversary, Wimbledon BookFest has earned the trust and admiration of a legion of famous writers and their publishers - as well as its passionate and enthusiastic festival audience."

Mr Kane said: "I simply feel that I had done nine years and it is time for somebody younger with fresh ideas to take over.

"I wish Toby the best of luck."

Wimbledon BookFest will take place from September 30 until October 9 this year.
