A man who allegedly glided into a Mitcham Co-op on a 'hoverboard' before stealing a crate of energy drink may make legal history when he faces prosecution for riding the scooter on the pavement.
Omaree Lindsay, 19, from Croydon has been charged with theft, failure to comply with a court order and driving the self-balancing gadget on a pavement.
Police released CCTV of a man riding into the Streatham Road shop on Sunday, September 6, before reappearing a few moments later holding a crate of Lucozade and whizzing out of the shop.
It is thought Mr Lindsay is the first person to be prosecuted under new laws that prevent people riding hoverboards on pavements.
He is set to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on December 30.
