An 18-year-old has died after being stabbed during a fight in Thornton Heath.

Dwaine Douglas, from Tulse Hill, was stabbed during an incident in Parchmore Road at around 10.30pm on Friday, police said.

He was taken to hospital but later died. A 16-year-old was arrested in connection with the stabbing. Two other teenagers - a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old - were were also being questioned by police.

Welcome to the warzone that is Croydon.

Another senseless death caused by children that have no values or respect for other people.
Maybe some sort of curfew could keep these "rodents" off the streets. I was not allowed out until 10.30 until I'd earnt my parents trust.
Condolences to the victims family. Outright contempt to the murderer, his friends and his family. These people are vermin and have no place in our society!

There is a dispersal order in this area which the police are not policing. I was in the area the previous Friday night and a gang of about 20 animals emerged from the station and launched an attack on the barbers shop opposite(which stay open until midnight for some reason). I guess the dead animal is a memeber of this gang as his address is Tulse Hill. I have no sympathy for these kids nor their parents.

At a meeting on Thursday the Croydon Bourough Commander
Goar hyad the audacity to say that CRIME in croydon was down on last year this is only because the police now fail to answer there phones or downgrad crimes to incidents so that they are not incorperated into the statistical base.

As for Drug related crimes these are not trabulated or included in Croydons overall crim statistics WHY

These kids will continue to act like animals until the Judges start handing out sentences that match the crime. If a kid is old enough to do the crime then he is old enough to do the time. If The liberal do gooders disagree, then how about the kids are taken away from the parents and given to the 'do gooder- to look after.

The crime rate in Croydon and other London areas just keeps rolling along, like old Father Thames. I can remember the Craig & Bentley case where Derek Bentley and Chris Craig were convicted of the murder of PC Sidney Miles in 1952. Derek was hanged (but should not have been!) and Craig was too young to suffer the same fate. I was a year or so younger than Derek Bentley at the time and knew him very slightly. He had a low mental age and was influenced by Craig who was a "wannabe" crook. This notorious case now seems quite an everyday affair in many ways. Kids go around with guns and knives with far less respect for the law and other people than in the 1950s in my opinion. One way to knock these toe-rags into shape is to inflict REAL punishment - physical punishment on these so-called "tough guys". In the worst cases we should most definitely execute them.

For everyone with a moan about the police not doing their job, I've a radical idea which will solve everything. It involves Joe Public volunteering to be Specials, keeping a check on their kids and making sure they're not up to no good when they're out of sight, starting Neighbourhood Watch schemes, digging deep for more officers/resources, not calling 999 for trivial reasons, not getting into trouble (ie fighting when drunk), not arguing the toss with the police - ie basically taking responsibility for their own actions, their kids, their neighbourhood and therefore helping the police do their jobs. Once you're happy you've done all you can, then by all means, moan about the police - but direct your moans at the government who have the authority to release more funding.

Terrible another senseless death when are the police going to get more funds to tackle these yobs, thier "parents" what we need is a team of police officers specially equipped to hunt down these scum as soon as they appear on the streets and make life hell for them. And thier parents to take responsibility for their behaviour, and in a perfect world the judges to find a backbone and do what they are paid for the police and the law abiding people deserve that. Lets drive these scum away to where they belong. Maybe this lad was innocent I dont know him, but I somehow think he may be yet another one of the lowlifes that are ruining everyones lives... not any more though

Regardless of what some of you say, no one deserves to lose their life. Think of what that person's family is going through right now. You cannot control every single thing your child does these days and the law doesnt help either. I see a lot of comments complaining about the support from the police. The police have no authority these days to do anything (thank you Cherie Blair for enforcing human rights!).
If these kids have no respect for authority figures then what respect will they have for anyone else?
This country is ridiculous! You kill someone and you serve a year in jail and whilst your in jail you get to watch tv, play playstation and talk to your mates all day. Hmmm that sounds like punishment to me! They are suppose to sit in a cell and think about what they have done wrong, not have the choice of what programme to watch....

I am an elderly black man who lives in thornton heath, and let me tell you have i seen some changes in this town these last few 20-25 years.
Never before do i feel for the public like i do nowadays.
This is a battlefield out there, with gang upon gangs at each other.
Let them stab eachother, if anything it's one less person the police will have to arrest at a later stage, we as the public can do nothing. We need to get rid of human rights act and this PACE which is something the police basically have to stick to as to what hey can and cant do, and then once we've done that let the police force do what needs to be done, god only knows they probably joined up to fight crime, not fight figures that i read in the newspapers that they must hit each year.
The only people that care about statistics are the government.
Lets also adopt the attitude of the Austrialian prime minister, where he quoted along the lines of ' if they do not want to stick to are ways there are not welcome'.
I took many a beating from police back home in my own country and also in the 70-80's in this country, i feared the police then, but kids today do not, and it's about time they do. The problem also lies with these 'do-gooders' who pass by police and try to talk like they know the law, leave it to the old bill and keep your bloody noses out. Only then will we get this country back to a safer place.
God have mercy on us all!!!

"I guess the dead animal is a member of this gang as his address is Tulse Hill" I cannot believe I have read such a disgusting comment. Makes me wonder who the animal actually is. You live in Croydon and there is a lot of gang crime there, does that make you a gang member too???? Please think before you write.
If you live by the sword then you shall die by it, however, unless it is categorically stated that Dwaine was a member of 'a gang of about 20 animals' or any gang, you shouldn't really be passing comment on it.

A death is a death. A mother watched with pride as these young men ,took their first steps. What, we must all ask ourselves. What ,is it in our society, that makes them turn out this way. Drugs or booze . We see it happen daily, the fights . Which seem to spring up with out more than a flicker of an eye. I do think our police do wonderful a job.... But the home is where we teach our children , how to behave.

I am in agreement with the majority of the comments posted here. What and how has this happened? This gang culture was not around at all about 5 years ago. The only way to stop this unnecessary violence is zero tolerance. Let's have curfews, let's bang inside ANYONE who has a knife, let's throw away the key for anyone inside who has committed murder. LET'S STOP LISTENING TO DO GOODER PEOPLE, there is no more time. In two years we will be like America. Think on parents. Do you know what your kids are up to when you let them out the door at night? This is a major problem for us all and I think its cause comes from bad upbringing by parents, peer pressure, no discipline in schools (thanks to the "do gooders"), the Government, and the American influence. When is something going to be done about it?

How can you even assume he was part of the same gang? Stop generalising people! The boy is dead, have some respect!

here we go again
blame who you want, the fact remains... young teenagers running around with knives are ruining this society. stabbing innocent vicitms for phones, dishing out beatings for a bit of cash. bring back national service and hand some power back to the police. this could have been anyones son or daughter or brother etc. it makes me sick, f***ing gangs, it wont be long till they've killed eachother, then things will return to normal. leave them to it i say

European countried send their young men to military camp so why cant we?
Its getting beyond a joke now.
The law needs to change and soon. Police laws should be made so they have more authority without being scared they may be sued for breach of human rights!!

I come from croydon and I know the problems that have been going on these past few years and have witnessed them getting worse and worse. There are two things that need to be done, if you wana get your community back parents need to get their kids back dicipline and morals start at home, schools do have a responsability but ultimately its the parents, the second thing is the police need to do more with help from the government. I’m living in madrid for the year as part of my studies and the one thing I notice as such a difference and so do all my friends from home who have come out to visit me is the huge amount of police presence. Everywhere you go there are police walking or police vans and cars and on bikes. dont get me wrong madrid has crime but nothing like what is happening in the london area, people need to fear the consequences of their actions otherwise this will just carry on spiralling out of control and more lives will be lost to senseless violence.
