Tooting Broadway station was hit by a security scare and online panic after armed police descended on the station.
Their arrival sparked fears of something serious coming in the wake of the Paris attacks.
But the Met said it was a search for a man with scissors.
A spokesman from Met Police said: "This is an incident regarding a man who is believed to be making threats and carrying scissors."

Armed police were originally reported to have evacuated the northern line as far as South Wimbledon.
But a spokesman for Transport for London said police stopped the train, searched for a person with a knife but could not find him and left.
They said no trains had been evacuated and the line had not been stopped.
A witness at the scene at 1.50pm said people were filing in and out of the station as normal.
