A 36-year-old man has died after “coming into contact with chemicals” at a home in the early hours of this morning.
Police closed Carshalton Road, Mitcham, and searched neighbouring homes after the man fell ill and was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition at about 3.45am this morning.

He died in hospital just after 7am.
Police officers remain at the home while an investigation is carried out into what a spokesman described as an unexplained death.
His next of kin have been informed.
The emergency services had closed Carshalton Road at the junction with Goat Road but the roads have now been re-opened.
The spokesman said there was no evidence to suggest it was linked to terrorism or extremism.
Enquiries are continuing into what happened there.
The spokesman added they were not aware of anybody else injured or taken ill.
