A man recently released from prison for burglary was caught red-handed climbing into a neighbour's garden.

Keith Lloyd, 35, of Reynolds Close, Colliers Wood, admitted going equipped for burglary after being spotted by a neighbour climbing into a back garden in Church Road, Mitcham.

Lloyd was released from prison on Tuesday, May 12, and was on licence for two burglaries he committed in December 2013 in Morden.

Wimbledon Magistrates' Court heard that on September 3, at 3am a man noticed Lloyd climbing into a neighbour's garden and opened his window to ask Lloyd what he was doing.

Lloyd fled and the man called the police.

After a search, Lloyd was found in Reynolds Close, Colliers Wood, and he was later charged with going equipped for burglary.

He was jailed for 54 days to run concurrently with his breach of licence which will now run until the end of August 2016.

Detective Constable Ian Griffiths, from Merton CID, said: "I am pleased with this result for the offence of going equipped as Lloyd had only recently been released from prison on licence for burglary.

"This means he will now have to serve his previous prison sentence in full and will be behind bars until August 2016."

He was sentenced on Thursday, September 24.
