Yet another vehicle has crashed into a railway bridge on Lower Downs Road.

It is at least the sixth incident like it in a little over a year, with vans often getting stuck beneath the bridge.

South West Trains tweeted just before 4pm today to say a vehicle had struck the bridge, and may cause disruption to trains.

Within fifteen minutes they confirmed trains were back up to normal speed and no further delays were expected.

Just the day before, on Thursday, a white van became stuck underneath the bridge. Although this did not affect trains, drivers experienced traffic delays until it was freed.

Wimbledon Times:

Yesterday a van became wedged underneath the bridge, causing severe traffic

Similar incidents occurred in April and May this year, and August and November last year.

In May a delivery van was badly damaged after misjudging the height of the bridge.

While in April a removal van became a victim of the 7ft nine inch bridge

Last November, a car and trailer found that Lower Downs was a bridge too far, when the police and firefighters had to be called to help release the vehicle.

And, in August of last year, it emerged that not even a Waitrose van could make it through the bridge unscathed.

Wimbledon Times:

Some Twitter users have expressed confusion at the amount of times that vehicles have misjudged the bridge.

That's the question we're all asking, Steve. It's the question we're all asking.
