A lost, thirsty chicken was rescued after getting trapped in a shop toilet in Morden.

The bird was so dehydrated she was drinking from the toilet, in the 24 hour gaming shop Cashinos on London Road.

The RSPCA were called when the bird was found on Wednesday, September 16, and named her ‘Armitage’, after the toilet where she was discovered.

RSPCA Inspector Lynn Marshall said: “This chicken was clearly in need of a bit of luck so managed to make her way to a casino.

“It wasn’t a win she was after though, more of a rescue, as she was in such a terrible state. She’d clearly had to fend for herself for quite a while.

Armitage is now looking for a new, permanent home

“She was extremely dehydrated – which had caused her to go down a toilet and try to drink from the water there. She was then so weak she didn’t have the power to fly out.”

The RSPCA are unsure whether the bird had escaped from her home and got lost, or whether she had been abandoned.

Armitage was placed in a boarding facility to be nursed back to health, and was so underweight that she could not eat at first.

Anyone interested in rehoming Armitage should contact the centre where she is being cared for on 01959 573317.
