A good Samaritan who appealed for the owner of a diamond ring after she found it on the pavement is happy the family’s distinctive motorbike has been returned after being stolen.

Martina Spencer and husband Thomas thought they would never see the £5,000 motorbike again after it was taken from their driveway in the early hours of May 24.

But the distinctive KTM black and orange bike was spotted in the Phipps Bridge area last Wednesday by police with a few scratches and a broken mirror.

Wimbledon Times:

The family are relieved to have the beloved bike, pictured above, back.

Mrs Spencer contacted the Wimbledon Guardian recently because she found a gold and diamond ring in London Road, Mitcham, and wanted to track down its rightful owner. No-one has come forward to claim the ring despite the appeal.

The family felt their kindness was thrown back in their faces when the treasured motorbike was taken from the front garden of their Rawnsley Avenue home in Mitcham.

Mrs Spencer said: "My husband was completely gutted, it was his baby.

"He spent so long working on it."

She said Mr Spencer bought it in November and spent his weekends working on it.

The bike was locked up in the front garden.

On Wednesday, police alerted the Spencers to a bike in the Phipps Bridge area, and they went to collect it the same day.

Members of staff at the Phipps Bridge Community Centre had spotted the bike, having recognised it from a Facebook appeal.

Having spotted the Wimbledon Guardian’s appeal for information on the lost ring earlier this month, Jimmy’s restaurant in Epsom offered the couple a free dinner on Saturday, May 30.

The venue was coincidentally where Mr and Mrs Spencer enjoyed their first date three years ago so they were delighted to return.
