Schools in Merton have signed up to take part in Step into Dance, a borough-wide event that enables students to receive specialist dance training.

A partnership project between The Jack Petchey Foundation and the Royal Academy of Dance, Step into Dance is currently established as a fully inclusive programme in 200 schools.

It offers students aged 11 to 18 years-old up to two hours of sustained training and performance opportunities throughout the academic year.

The events provide students with the opportunity to gain confidence performing on stage in front of large audiences, as well as the chance to audition for Step LIVE! 2015, the annual showcase from Step into Dance taking place on July 12 at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in Clerkenwell.

Starting in Bromley on April 16, the event will close at Ricards Lodge High School in Wimbledon on May 14 where around 10 schools will perform.

Currently six schools are confirmed to perform, including Lambeth Academy, Raynes Park High School and Cricket Green School.

Programme and artistic director Sue Goodman, said: "Every year the standard at the borough events goes up and up. I can’t wait for another great set of shows!"
