Two men were shot at after a group of men armed with baseball bats were seen chasing a car down the street.

Firearms officers are investigating after two men were shot at in Bennetts Close, Mitcham at lunch time on Monday shortly after men armed with baseball bats had been seen chasing a silver people carrier down Tamworth Lane, Mitcham.

Specialist firearms police are hunting for a gunman and believe the two incidents are connected.

Nobody was injured in the shooting and there have been no arrests made.

At about 12.30 on Monday, March 30, police were called to reports of shots being fired in Bennetts Close, Mitcham.

Officers arrived and searched the area but the gunman had gone.

A witness described seeing a man enter from the park at the end of Bennetts Close and fire towards the two men before running back into the park.

Around ten minutes earlier, men armed with baseball bats had been seen chasing a silver people carrier down Tamworth Lane, police said.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Jeremy Hooper of Trident Gang Crime Command said: "I'm appealing for the public's help to trace the gunman and the men seen chasing the people carried beforehand.

"Did you see either of these incidents? Maybe you saw the men with baseball bats before or after the incident took place. If so, please call me or Crimestoppers."
