The Evening Times Local Heroes Awards recognise and reward Scotland's unsung army of volunteers who work tirelessly to help others.

Whether they're campaigning for better services, tackling key health issues, cleaning up their communities or addressing inequalities, it's their invaluable contribution that we want to honour.

But we need YOU to tell us about them.

Perhaps it's a neighbour who gives up all their free time to run much-need youth clubs in the area, or maybe it's a parent who is determined to tackle key health issues in the area.

It could be a community project that aims to restore civic pride by waging war on vandalism and anti-social behaviour, a team behind an organisation that works to wipe out bigotry or racism or a group that supports the most vulnerable in society such as the elderly or people with mental health problems or addictions.

The awards, now in their 19th year, are in partnership with North Ayrshire Council, East Ayrshire Council, North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Glasgow City Council, which is this year's host.

The Evening Times is also delighted to announce three new partners for this year's Local Heroes awards - family bakery firm Warburtons, Glasgow Housing Association and BAE Systems.

"Local Heroes is an exciting initiative which Warburtons is proud to sponsor," said Alban Denton, Warburtons area director north.

"It helps to highlight our continued efforts to support individuals and groups which promote the invaluable contribution diet can make to a healthy, active lifestyle."

The awards ceremony takes place at Glasgow City Chambers on Thursday, April 19 where winners will be presented with an engraved glass award as well as £3000 towards their project.

The Young Heroes will receive £500 and a commemorative trophy.
