A tech hub dubbed Merton's answer to Silicon Valley drew dozens of entrepreneurs to an official launch event last week.

Founded by techpreneur David Fletcher in February last year, Wimbletech has grown from a couple of desks to a home for 55 start-ups in rooms above Wimbledon Library.

Could Wimbledon be London's next tech hub?

The community-centric hub helps start-ups set up their businesses and offers free coding classes for children and adults.

Mr Fletcher said he now hopes to work with Merton Council to find more space for start-ups in the borough.

He said: "The next three to six months are really important to us because we are now full to bursting in our existing site.

"We need to work really closely with the council to ensure that all the hard work that we’ve already done in bringing amazing individuals and tech start-ups to Merton, pays off."

Councillor Stephen Alambritis joined businesses and guest speaker Sam Street, who co-founded internet delivery company Postmates, at the opening event last Thursday.
