A student at South Thames College has been stabbed in Morden Park.

The 18-year-old man was stabbed after a fight broke out at about 12.30pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said officers were called to a south London hospital at 1.30pm to reports of a man with stab injuries.

The teenager remains in hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.

No arrests have been made.

A South Thames College spokeswoman said: "We are aware that one of our students was injured in a knife-related incident near Morden Park yesterday afternoon and our thoughts are with him and his family.

"We will help the police with their investigation into this incident and our work to keep our students safe and confident on our campus continues.

"Our team of youth workers are also here to support any of our students who have been affected or are distressed by this event."

Police taped off an area of London Road on the edge of the park between the Baitul Futuh Mosque and Morden Park Pools yesterday afternoon.

Mark Weller, who was driving past the college at about 5pm yesterday, said: "There were a couple of people of people talking to the police there but I was driving so it was difficult to find out anything else."

South Thames College was created in 1895 "funded by a tax on whiskey" and has about 21,000 students across campuses in Merton, Wandsworth, Tooting and Roehampton.
