Dedicated volunteer Simon Duncton gives up at least two days a week to support his beloved AFC Wimbledon and Age UK Merton.

The 69-year-old is not thinking of retiring just yet and enjoys being part of the maintenance team at Kingsmeadow for AFC Wimbledon, where he is a keen season ticket holder.

Every Thursday, he joins two other volunteers to carry out odd jobs at the stadium.

He doesn’t ask for anything back, he said his reward is to keep the club ticking over.

The jobs range from replacing seats broken by wayward shots to helping get snow off the pitch during adverse weather.

Every Tuesday for nearly two years, Mr Duncton has started early in the morning to cycle to Mitcham from his Morden home to drive elderly people in Age UK’s mini-bus to outings or appointments across the country.

In addition to this, his now grown-up sons said he has made valuable contributions to the local community through sports clubs and scouts groups that they were both involved in as children.

He has been nominated by his family for the Volunteer of the Year Award for his hard work and dedication to the causes close to his heart.
