An injured fox that made its home at a New Malden mechanics has been released back into the wild.

The wounded female fox wandered up behind a mechanic at Motest in Burlington Road late last year.

It was shooed away but persistently came back to the garage, eventually hiding itself under a car.

Mechanics tried to tempt the animal out with bits of sausage but it refused to move.

Animal charity Wildlife Aid was called and they coaxed the fox out and took her to their Leatherhead shelter.

Watch Wildlife Aid's video of the fox being resuced from Motest New Malden below:

There she was bandaged up and found to have the dangerous infectious disease toxicplasmosis that can  cause blindness, seizers and eventually death.

Simon Cowell, Wildlife Aid’s CEO, said: “She was in a bad way when she came in but our vets managed to save her.

"We’ve just released her back into her territory and I think she'll be doing very well now she is cured."
