Businesses which currently operate from the estate will have to leave and current buildings demolished to make way for up to 229 new homes, 130 car parking spaces and a ‘kiss and ride’ facility.

Shas Sheehan, parliamentary spokesperson for the Wimbledon Liberal Democrats organised the meeting in Raynes Park Library.

She said: "I have been very busy but I went through the documents and thought it was crazy it could be allowed to go through.

"I thought it was time to do something about it."

A spokesperson at the applicant, the Workspace Group, has previously said it had been through extensive consultation with local residents over a number of years to finalise the proposals.

Merton Council will ultimately decide whether to grant planning permission for the development which will include basement parking for 126 cars, 21 motorbikes and 33 disability spaces, and 266 bicycle storage spaces.
