A charity has helped fill the stomachs of those in need this Christmas with two pallets stuffed full of free food.

The Wimbledon Foundation, the charity of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), has delivered dozens of boxes to three charities in Merton and Wandsworth this December.

The Wimbledon Food Bank at Pollards Hill Baptist Church, the Klevis Kola Foundation in Tooting and the Vine Project in Mitcham will all benefit from the foundation’s generosity.

Members of the AELTC staff were also on hand to help with the heavy lifting and distribution for the project which worked in partnership with FMC, official caterers of the Championships.

Monica Tyler, CEO of the Vine Project, said: “We have around 40 volunteers here each day because for many The Vine Project is a place of refuge from tough circumstances.

“We provide tea, coffee and where possible food, as well as training so that they can access paid work.

“Each year at our Christmas party we provide gifts of donated items to our volunteers and so the Wimbledon Foundation and FMC’s donations will make a real difference in our volunteers’ lives.”

Helen Parker, Wimbledon Foundation & Community Manager said: “Supporting our local communities in the London Boroughs of Merton and Wandsworth is one of the principal objectives of the Wimbledon Foundation.

"We were pleased to be able to team up with FMC to help these charities in their fantastic work this Christmas.”

The donations were distributed on Wednesday, December 17.
