A charming olde English pub tucked away on the corner of Wimbledon Common is back serving British classics after a stylish refurb.

Serving locals since 1881, the Young's family is still running The Crooked Billet, on the edge of Southside Common.

Eclectic furnishings, log fires and piles of books recreate the mood of a 19th century tavern, with rugs and deckchairs outside in milder weather.

Somewhat slapdash service might go too far in recreating the gritty Victorian atmosphere for some, but others will enjoy the relaxed feel of a friend's kitchen, where dogs, buggies and children are all welcome.

Getting hungry? Start with a generous portion of salt and pepper squid with garlic mayonnaise, or honey-glazed mini sausages if you're starving.

But save your appetite if you can for their glorious Sunday roast, complete with crispy Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings.

You can choose from lamb, beef, or chicken or go all-out with their 'three-meat' feast selection.

Finish things off with a proper English pud from their seasonal menu - now offering sticky toffee pudding, not-too-sweet berry crumble and classic lemon tart.
