A primary school is celebrating both sporting and gardening awards this term.

Students at the Priory CofE Primary School in Queens Road, Wimbledon, have been honoured by London in Bloom and with a Gold Sportsmark award for its more active youngsters.

London in Bloom awarded the school a Silver Gilt award for the second year running in recognition of its green-fingered youngsters.

Children have been growing vegetables and fruit in the school garden.

MP Stephen Hammond presented the Sportsmark award to the school on Monday, October 20.

The school offers sports including netball, football and cricket in lunchtime and after school clubs, as well as inter-house matches and a swimming programme for children in Year three and four.

Headteacher Jane White: "It is a fabulous achievement and we are very proud of the children and staff for their efforts.

"It is wonderful to get a sports award to go with our Artsmark award - it shows the breadth of our curriculum."

The Artsmark is Arts Council England’s flagship programme to enable schools to evaluate, strengthen and celebrate its arts and cultural achievements.

The Sportsmark award was given by Merton School Sports Partnership.
