Rare white squirrels have been captured on film and video in a park in the past few weeks.

Two or three of the skittish albino animals have been seen in Dundonald Rec in Wimbledon and the surrounding area in recent months by eagle-eyed neighbours.

Earlier this week a man sent the Wimbledon Guardian a video of the squirrels in action and budding wildlife photographer Danielle Connor, 19, photographed the elusive squirrel while out walking there.

The ex-Ursuline student, who has just started studying zoology at university, was named RSPCA young photographer in 2013.

She also took part in our Young Reporter scheme for two years and won this year's award for the best breaking news story for an article about a Coot found with a dart in its neck on Wimbledon Common.

Local naturalist Tony Drakeford, who has his own Nature Notes column on our website, said: "These are albino squirrels and we have been getting black ones as well.

"They are quite rare."
