A primary school pupil is using the latest craze to raise hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity in memory of her grandfather.

Danielle Bradley, 10, had sold dozens of brightly coloured loom band bracelets to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support following the death of her paternal grandfather Lawrence Bradley.

The Poplar Primary School student who started fundraising with a target of £25 has now raised £260 for the charity and is not stopping there.

Her father Stephen Bradley said: "We’re immensely proud of her; she’s done this off her own back."

Danielle, who lives in Mostyn Road, Merton Park, decided to fundraise whilst on a family holiday this year.

The death of her grandfather from bowel cancer in 2008 encouraged Danielle to do something for the charity, which also helped maternal grandfather David Miller when he suffered from prostate cancer in 2003.

Wimbledon Times:

Mr Bradley said: "It’s really poignant she’s raising money for the charity that has helped our family."

Danielle sells her loom band bracelets to teachers, friends and family, and with 12 different colours in her kit to choose from, the schoolgirl has cleverly used the latest fashion craze to support a good cause.

Having made 46 bracelets so far, Danielle and her family are determined to raise £300 by Christmas.

Mr Bradley said: "When she gets home from school she’s straight on to making more loom bands.

"Getting to £300 would be fantastic, what she has achieved already is fantastic."

Danielle takes inspiration from her father, who fundraises for St Raphael’s Hospice in Cheam, which supported her grandfather in his final days.
