Work will start this month to revamp Mitcham town centre.

‘Preliminary work’ including re-locating a bus stop and cabling in areas of the town centre will be the first part of the Rediscover Mitcham project, a multi-million pound Merton Council project over three years to improve the area.

It will concentrate on the Fair Green area and surrounding streets.

Merton Council cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration Councillor Andrew Judge said: "Residents will start to see our investment in the town centre when works start in October.

"We’ll be doing the necessary preliminary works which include checking the earth density, relocating telecom cabling and a telecom cabinet and relocating a bus stop which will allow our contractors onto site more easily for when the major earth works start in January."

The council has pledged to consult with residents and businesses this month on proposed changes to parking on Upper Green East and Upper Green West.
