A 26-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of neglect following the death of a five-month old baby girl has been released on police bail, Scotland Yard has said.

Emergency crews from the London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police were called to an address in Glastonbury Road, St Helier, at 7.30am on Wednesday September 10.

The baby girl was taken to 'a south London' hospital where she later died.

The Specialist Child Abuse investigation team, including forensic officers, examined the scene with police kept stationed outside the home throughout the day.

The baby's mother, named locally as Leigh Parsons, had spoken with neighbours about the distress the family has suffered since the tragedy and asked for time and space to grieve.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the 26-year-old is due to return to the Metropolitan Police in 'mid September'.
