Church-goers have raised thousands of pounds for charity on two wheels.

A team from Doxa Deo, a Christian church in Wimbledon, cycled about 250 miles from London to Paris to raise money for a Christmas lunch project they run.

A total of £12,000 was raised in sponsorship by the eight cyclists and six support team members.

Leader for the Doxa Deo church and cyclist, Ioannis Dekas said: "In a season where everyone should be celebrating life with family and friends, there are people in our area that will hardly make ends meet.

"Christmas Lunch on Jesus aims to change that, and to give those who need it most, the chance to have a happy festive season."

Last year the Christmas on Jesus project distributed more than 500 food hampers to families in need, and they hope to reach at least the same number of people this year.
