A newly opened Indian restaurant is well worth a visit for delicious, fresh food and a smart comfortable atmosphere.

Khanage in The Broadway, Wimbledon, is a new venture for owners who run a successful branch in Morden.

Specialising in dishes from Lahore in Pakistan, the lamb pasanda melted in the mouth and the rice was fluffy and light.

My vegetarian partner’s aubergine curry was soft and creamy and we were impressed by the lightly battered aubergine bhajis, onion bhajis and vegetable samosas on the starter platter.

Side dishes of saag paneer and garlic and Peshwari naan breads were really good accompaniments which left us comfortably full up.

There is a wide range of choice, from seafood to meat and vegetarian options, with a special children’s menu and a range of specials for the more adventurous diner.

The decor is smart and clean, with patterned orange and gold wallpaper and model elephants sitting proudly on shelves. A childhood black and white photo of owner Anwar adorns one wall artily.

Persuaded to have dessert, we enjoyed a warm gajar halwa, a sweet dish made from carrots and Indian dough balls in a rich syrup, both served with vanilla ice-cream.

The central location and bi-folding doors make it a good place to enjoy a meal inside or outside and a takeaway service is also offered.

I would certainly recommend Khanage.
