Nearly all the boys at a day school in Wimbledon achieved A or A* grades in their GCSEs today.

Just under 97 per cent of pupils at King’s College in Southside, Wimbledon Common, got the top grades today.

A total of 41 pupils, 75.4 per cent, achieved A* alone.

Headteacher Andrew Halls spoke of his delight at receiving the results.

He said: "Once again we are seeing an excellent group of boys showing just how well boys can do in public exams when they have great spirit, great purpose, and great teaching.

“We firmly believe in the merits of teaching the subject itself, not just swotting through an exam syllabus, and we firmly believe in the non-modular courses that IGCSEs have provided us with in almost all of our subjects.”

An IGCSE is a course offered in preparation of the International Baccalaureate.

The school said the majority of subjects taken, including English, maths, sciences and geography are taken at IGCSE.

A statement from the school said King's also achieved record results in the International Baccalaureate for its sixth formers.

It said it has one of the largest cohorts in the world of 190 pupils, over 52 per cent of all higher level grades were at Level 7 - equivalent to the sought-after A* at A level.

Almost 87 per cent of all IB grades for King's pupils this year were at higher Level 7/6 - equivalent to A level grades A*/A, the school said.
