Police have released a shocking image of the injuries sustained by a 55-year-old man attacked at his Wimbledon home during a violent burglary on Monday night.

The man was brutally beaten during an aggravated burglary in Kings Road, close to the junction with The Broadway at about 10pm.

He remains at a south London hospital where he is undergoing eye surgery.

CCTV images released by police today show a third suspect running from The Broadway towards the New Wimbledon Theatre.

It is understood a 50-year-old woman and two other residents who were at home during the attack were not seriously injured.

Police arrested two men in their late twenties at the scene but a third suspect remains on the loose.

A concerned man who lives opposite the address said he is taking extra security precautions following the incident.

Residents of the semi-detached house where the burglary took place were not at home last night and shocked neighbours remained tight-lipped about what had happened.
