Business owners are looking forward to pedalling more sales when the Prudential RideLondon bike ride weave its way through Surrey and London next Sunday.

The cyclists will start at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London, before heading to Canary Wharf and then passing through the City of London.

Competitors will later ride through Richmond Park and Kingston-upon-Thames, before finishing at Putney Bridge.

The 100-mile event will also pass through Merton, Raynes Park, and Wimbledon Hill, as well as making tracks through parts of Elmbridge.

George Absi, owner of Cafe Paola in Hill Rise, Richmond, said: “I cannot wait for the event next week.

“When the Olympic bike ride came through it quadrupled our sales. We could not cope, but in a good way.”

The event is part of a Mayor of London initiative to getting more people cycling, and includes an accessible family bike ride.

Over the two days spectators will also be able to watch some of the world’s best cyclists slog it out in the  Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic and Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix.

Hundreds of people are expected to turn out to watch it.

Paul Easterbrook, owner of the The Gazebo pub in Thames Street, Kingston, said: “It will be great if it is sunny.

“If it rains it won’t make a difference.

“Should it be sunny though, I imagine the bike ride will make the area busier than usual, so I am looking forward to it.”

Kelly Raynirse, who works at the Dukes Head in Lower Richmond Road, Putney, said: “We are preparing for more business than usual.

“It should be fun I think and we will definitely make more sales.

The Prudential RideLondon will takes place on Saturday, August 9, and Sunday, August 10.
