A man broke both his legs after falling from a ladder on top of a five storey building.

The emergency services were called to the scene in Grosvenor Hill, Wimbledon where they found the man, thought to be in his fifties, with agonising injuries.

Firefighters from Wimbledon station brought the man down from the roof of the building using the aerial ladder before he was taken to St George’s Hospital by ambulance.

A spokesman said: "He was working on the roof and had pitched his ladder, fell off and broke both his lower legs."

The man is thought to have been an experienced workman who had been carrying out work on the roof when the incident happened at about 1.30pm on Friday, July 11.

The London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police were on the scene.
