A national award will be named after Merton’s Voluntary Services Council founder Chris Frost MBE, who died last year.
The honour collected by Ms Frost at the National Compact Awards the day before she died, will now be named after her as a permanent tribute to her dedication to the community.
The Chris Frost award, formerly known as the Compact Chair’s award was won by the Merton Partnership last year at the awards organised by Compact, a national network representing the voluntary sector.
She died unexpectedly in November last year at the age of 67 - the day after the National Compact Awards and has been described as a leading light in the voluntary sector.
Ms Frost was posthumously named in the Queen’s honours list.
As chief executive of Merton Voluntary Service Council and a Compact Voice board member, Chris was recognised for her work nationally, winning several Compact awards including the highest honour, the Compact Leadership Award in 2012.
Leader of Merton Council, Councillor Stephen Alambritis said: "Chris was an inspiration to everyone who met her.
"It is very fitting that Compact Voice recognises the incredible contribution Chris made to partnership working and the voluntary and community sector, by letting her legacy live on through the Chris Frost award."
