Church volunteers took to the streets at the weekend to pick up litter and do some weeding.

Volunteers from the Elim Pentecostal Church in Love Lane, Mitcham, took part in a community clean-up event after deciding to take action on dirty streets.

The pastor of the church, Reverend Hilla Bossoh said: “The church is surrounded by houses but also litter and overgrown alleys so we decided to do something about it.”

Members scoured the neighbourhood for litter on Saturday, June 21.

The event was supported by the Environmental and Waste Department of the Merton Council which supplied all the tools needed for the clean-up exercise.

The council also provided a refuse truck to remove the heap of rubbish collected in the neighbourhood at the end of the event.
