Wimbledon Broadway got into the tennis spirit with the launch of an open air screen yesterday.

Up to 60 invited guests turned out to see the first day of Love Wimbledon’s initiative to bring tennis fever to the town centre.

The piazza is playing host to a large screen, deck chairs and astro-turf sofas for the next fortnight, with matches being broadcast for free.

For the men’s final won by Andy Murray last year, 1,600 people packed into the piazza for the showing, Love Wimbledon said.

Danielle Cleobury of Love Wimbledon said: "It is a great initiative to bring tennis to the town centre.

"It is has never been celebrated in the town centre before.

"It is a brilliant way to enjoy it."

Surrounding businesses have got into the tennis spirit, with Morrisons replacing one of its letters with a giant tennis ball.
