A wigwam of broad beans, a bicycle covered in flowers and an insect hotel all made the Piazza in Wimbledon a bit greener at the weekend.

A pop-up gardening event saw people bring along a variety of plants and insect-friendly items including a beehive for display alongside deckchairs where people soaked up the sunshine.

The event was held on Sunday, June 8 as part of the Chelsea Fringe Festival.

One of the organisers, Caroline Pankhurst, said: "Everyone really enjoyed it.

"We are a group of individuals who like gardening and thought it was a good idea to turn the Piazza into a garden for a day."

Miss Pankhurst would like to thank everyone who participated in the pop-up garden.

The one-off event could now be held more regularly following its success.

As well as bringing their own contributions, visitors planted their own pots of chillies and peas to take home.
