Decision imminent on future of Wimbledon Studios Media Village
The future of the Media Village at Wimbledon Studios will be announced today to concerned businesses based there.
Workers from more than 50 media businesses will learn the future of the studios at a meeting scheduled for today, Thursday, June 5, after the Wimbledon Guardian reported it was up for sale.
Hundreds of jobs could be at risk if the village is given the chop.
Owners of the site in Deer Park Road, Wimbledon, said they are continuing negotiations with interested parties, half of which are in favour of keeping the village, and half of which are not.
Andrew Perloff, the chief executive and chairman of Panther Securities Plc, who own the site, said nothing is clear cut and negotiations are ongoing.
Mr Perloff said: "Talks are ongoing with at least three or four parties. Half are intent on keeping the village as it is and half are not.
"If they don’t, there will be six months notice of their intentions. The Media Village will be here for months yet and maybe permanently."
Piers Read, managing director of Wimbledon TV Studios, said: "We are talking to a number of very interested parties about potential investment in the studios.
"This will help us meet our ambitious expansion and development plans, to take advantage of the increasing need for studio and office space close to the centre of London."
