A Dementia hub in Mitcham has been praised by broadcaster John Humphrys on national radio.

In a programme set to be aired today, Mr Humphrys hailed the new Merton Dementia Hub in Whitford Gardens, Mitcham, as a ‘brilliant centre.’

The nod came as part of an interview with service users on Radio 4’s Today programme, broadcast in two parts.

The second part – an interview with South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust (SWLSTG) clinicians is due to air tomorrow, Friday, May 30.

Grace Pereira, who was interviewed at the Hub with her husband Dereyck, insisted that she had to deal with the illness simply by getting on with life.

"I’m enjoying my life, really I am," she told Mr Humphrys.

"You haven’t got any choice, have you?"

The Merton Dementia Hub is a new facility set up and run by partners including SWLSTG, the Alzheimer’s Society and Merton Council.

It offers care and support for service users at various stages of the illness.
