Obstacles including monkey bars, mud runs and vertical walls were defeated by a Wimbledon man who came second in the ‘longest assault course in the world.’

Ross Macdonald, 26, came second in the male division of the race on Saturday, May 10, completing 20 miles and 200 obstacles to finish in two hours 41 minutes.

A total of 6,000 people took part in the Dirty Weekend event organised by Rat Race Adventure Sports.

Mr Macdonald said: "Having raced the 20 miles of obstacles at Burghley Park in 2013, I had a good idea of what to expect this year.

"I came second last year and was returning in the hope of securing a top three finish once again, against what is becoming an increasingly competitive sport.

"The final obstacle, three high walls, are really difficult when you have already used up all of your energy. "

The event was held at Burghley House in Lincolnshire.
