Judges are perusing entries for a school art competition where thousands of pounds worth of prizes are up for grabs.

Primary and secondary school pupils in the borough have been getting creative for the Our Merton School Art competition, sponsored by Ellisons estate agents.

Ellisons has organised the event to mark the company’s 25th anniversary and will be giving away £8,000 in prize money to the winning schools.

Budding artists were asked to draw or paint a scene from Merton.

Sean Purtill, managing director of Ellisons said: "To mark our 25th anniversary we were keen to hold a competition which would involve the local community and show our continuing support for the schools of Merton."

The £8,000 prize money will be divided into two categories; primary and secondary schools.

The winning artists will each win their schools £4,000, and will also win themselves an iPad or tickets for a family day at Regent’s Park Zoo.

Winners will be announced at a private ceremony at Cannizaro House Hotel on Tuesday, May 20, where prizes will be presented by the mayor of Merton.

The competition is supported by the Wimbledon Guardian, Hartley Fowler chartered accountants and Cannizaro House Hotel.
